内容記述 | In recent years, there has been a growing demand among university students studying English for the integration of illustrations and photos with new or essential vocabulary, particularly among those facing challenges in English proficiency. While previous studies have recognized the effectiveness of incorporating visual aids, a lingering question remains as to whether enriching visual teaching materials genuinely enhances vocabulary acquisition. To address this question, a study involving 69 university students majoring in non-English fields was conducted. The study aimed to determine if an illustrated word list could enhance vocabulary acquisition. Group A, comprising 31 students, received an illustrated word list, while Group B, consisting of 38 students, received a plain word list without illustrations. Apart from this variation, teaching methods remained consistent between the two groups. Over the course of three weeks, participants engaged in the study, and in the fourth week, a vocabulary-matching test was administered before introducing new content. The results showed that the group using illustrations achieved an average score of 10.00 out of 15 (66.67%), whereas the group without illustrations scored 9.42 (62.81%). However, no statistically significant difference emerged, ultimately failing to confirm a statistically validated impact of illustrations on vocabulary acquisition. |
